Watchmen Original Soundtrack: Damn Good Tunes!

IGN recently wrote that Watchmen is the movie you always wanted but never expected to get. As I watched a garbled two part stream from my laptop, well, I’d rather see it at IMAX. It was like, fuck, I know this is good stuff but it sucks not being able to see half of it. So then I just listened to the music, which was surprising. Leonard Cohen? Philip Glass? Jimi Hendrix? The Budapest Symphony Orchestra? The song from the beginning of “The Graduate” where Dustin Hoffman is on that floor escalator airport thing? I’m there! Even the My Chemical Romance song (shitty MTV friendly pop-punk/emo group from the Good Charlotte years) had a really cool cove row “Desolation Row.” I torrented watchmen-tales-of-the-black-freighter-20090202001416484_640w1

It’s a “Heavy Metal the Movie” esque half hour cartoon cut from the already long Watchmen movie. The closing song was “Pirate Jenny” by Nina Simone, which completes the soundtrack. Oh. Mah. God. Becky! Ya, I rly rly like. Yeah so get it. Now.

So here’

Haunting in Connecticut is bullshit

They had a “documentary” with interviews from the family on the Discovery Channel. It was scary, but yeah, it’s like they saw the Amityville Horror, threw in the towel and decided that they couldn’t think up anything better. Dumb stuff.

It’s old news that Martin Luther King Jr plagiarized his doctoral thesis at Boston University as well as much of his “I have a dream” speech. A couple of these I did not know though. I really wouldn’t want to be the one taking back Martin Luther King’s doctorate. Nor would I want to be the one to admit that I sat on the back of the bus where Rosa Parks sat, and it wasn’t so bad: rosa-parks

Kids in South Africa helping parents with aids more likely to contract it themselves:

So here’s the problem with this video: if the top 25% of smartest children in China outnumber the total children in the United States, doesn’t that mean that the lowest quarter of their DUMBEST kids also rival our total number of children? Then why don’t they just say that their child population is four times ours???

Greediest people of all time (and there’s a pope on the list too!)

Bernard Madoff is I guess the “greediest person ever”. I really do believe in the guillotine for stealing from charities in order to get yachts (that’s plural, with an “s”). How could anybody find a way to spend 50 billion dollars? What damn good is it???

Letter to a Christian Friend

But this movie, “Expelled”. isn’t this exactly what we’re talking about? Scientists are helping people survive cancer, distinguishing traits that allow plants to survive in order to provide food to nations in drought, understanding how deadly viruses evolve in order keep children in 3rd world countries from dying. It’s such an odd thing to me that half of the world’s children could die and kids turn on MTV to see reality shows about the problems of rich white kids (drug usage in the suburbs, relationship drama, etc.) It sounds so preachy, and I don’t mean for it to be like that, but I see movies like this and think that a large portion of the Christian community feels this is more beneficial than all the charity and missionary work a smaller percentage of the Christian community are dedicated to. It’s completely overshadowed. These creation science/id organizations aren’t fruitful; they’re not helping us with the world’s great agricultural/health/energy issues–they make movies and websites. Do you see what I mean Josh? Why would a god support the people at creationism.com or whatever before he’d support the people spending all their time working on research at universities? To put this locally, Joel Olsteen has an astrodome for his church, and the people at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston are losing jobs and funding due to the hurricane.

Really, what incentive did post 9/11 GITMO have to admit they fucked up? All it would garner is more negative press; better to keep them and swear they’re of some value.

http://homelesstales.com/2009/03/ten-reasons-homeless-people-choose-homelessness/
“A large percentage of homeless shelters have a religious affiliation. Not all but many of those that do have one impose a requirement to attend religious services in order for a person to be granted access to their food and shelter facilities. This can, of course, be offensive to some and particularly those who belong to an ethnic minority, which tend to be over-represented amongst the homeless population.”
Wow is this sad or what? I had no idea that was the case.

To celebrate Obama’s funding for abortion, I wanted to beat a dead horse a little more. I found these articles by “Cecil” and I really liked the way he talked. It always bothered me to hear women say that it’s their body (it’s not, technically; for example, when a penis is inside your body, it’s still not yours anymore than a hotel room becomes the person depending upon it for shelter), and two, that if a woman is raped that the question of abortion ethics is out the window. That’s not to say I’m pro-life; I’m most definitely pro-death.
